I read the Simon Winchester book about that. It’s all pretty amazing, and that article does a nice job of summarizing and explaining (a bit) just the noise itself. Incredible. Good find.

Glad you enjoyed. It was one of those things that Firefox shows me when I load the browser. Sometimes, something interesting pops up. I wouldn’t wanna get my ear drums burst, but I’ve always wondered what that must have sounded like.

I know that shockwave feeling... I’ve been to a Foo Fighters concert.

Should I be relieved that your comment has no meaning to me personally?

I’ve read that the noise *itself* was lethal at close range.

I drove behind an M-60 battle tank at a gunnery range once while I was in the Army, and a distance of about 75 yards. The report was a real attention getter. I’d like to know what that might have been worth in decibels.
I knew an Old Guy who was a crew member on the Augusta Maru, a battleship that plied the Pacific during WWII. He said he was up on a conning tower somewhere when one of the 16-inchers fired and the concussion nearly knocked him off the latter he was on.
I wouldn’t want to die, or get my eardrums shattered, but I’ve wondered what that might have sounded like. Maybe at 200 miles...

Skyrim memes. I’m years late, but the horse doesn’t get any deader so I figured why not.
